ABOUT NCDC LABORERS
The Northern California District Council of Laborers (NCDC) is the voice of construction laborers across 46 counties. We negotiate master agreements, run state-of-the-art training centers in Pleasanton, Sacramento and Fresno, and fight for safe jobsites, fair pay and respect for every worker — union or not.

03 — Apprenticeship
EARN WHILE YOU LEARN. ZERO TUITION.
Northern California Laborers Training Center: 3,000 hours paid on-the-job + 320 hours classroom. Graduate as journeyman with OSHA 30, forklift, hazardous waste, concrete and pipelaying certs.
18+, ID + diploma/GED. No experience. Apply at any hall or online dispatch.
Start at $24/hr + raises every 6 months. Free gear, free classes.
Union dispatch sends you to contractors. Work 1,500+ hours/year guaranteed demand.
Full wage, pension, annuity, healthcare for family. Foreman path in 5 years.

Do I need experience to join?
No. 70% of apprentices start with zero construction experience. If you are 18+, can lift 50 lbs, pass drug test and show up on time — we will train you free and pay you from day one.
How much does apprenticeship cost?
$0 tuition for members. Tools, books, safety gear and certifications covered by union trust fund paid by contractors — not workers.
How do I get work after joining?
Through union dispatch hall. You sign the out-of-work list, we call you for jobs by seniority + skills. Most journeymen work 1,600–2,000 hours/year.
Can women and veterans join?
Absolutely. 12% members are women and growing + Helmets to Hardhats fast-track for veterans. Childcare stipends and mentorship available.
Where is NCDC located?
District office + training centers in Pleasanton, Sacramento, Fresno with 14 locals across Northern California from Bakersfield to the Oregon border.
