MANITOBA’S TEAM CARRUTHERS ADDS CATLIN SCHNEIDER AS THIRD

After losing one import player, Manitoba men’s curling champion Reid Carruthers went after another one.

Team Carruthers announced Friday that it is adding Catlin Schneider as third for next season, while Carruthers will move back into a skipping role.

Carruthers moved down to third during the past season, allowing Brad Jacobs of Northern Ontario to take over the skipping role. The team won the Manitoba championship and made it to the playoffs at the Brier before bowing out.

Last month, Jacobs announced he was leaving the team to take over as skip of the foursome formerly skipped by Brendan Bottcher, which includes Marc Kennedy, Brett Gallant and Ben Hebert.

Schneider, who is from Regina, represented B.C., in the Brier last season after skipping his team to a provincial championship.

“Catlin brings plenty of knowledge and experience to the team, with four Brier appearances, a Brier bronze medal and a Grand Slam of Curling victory,” Team Carruthers said in a post on X.

“We can’t wait to get started.”

Schneider has now appeared in four Briers and won a bronze medal as the second for Matt Dunstone in 2020. He also played third for Saskatchewan’s Colton Flasch for three seasons.

Team Carruthers also includes second Derek Samagalski and Connor Njegovan.

The foursome, with Jacobs skipping, finished sixth in the Canadian Team Ranking System standings in 2023-24.
